Auditions for Dance Majors
Showcase your training, artistry and potential as part of Adelphi’s dynamic, performance-focused dance community.
Take your first step by applying for admission to begin your career in dance at Adelphi. Our Office of University Admissions encourages you to learn about financial aid and scholarships.
Your audition will also determine whether you’ll receive one of our several talent scholarships.
In-Person Auditions
Your admission to our highly selective dance program is by audition. .
- November 11, 2026 at 9:30am – 2:30pm (must apply by November 1)
- February 15, 2027 at 9:30am – 2:30pm (must apply by January 15)
The audition experience mirrors a typical day of technique classes, with chances to speak to students and faculty. You will be required to:
- Take a full ballet class
- Take a modern/contemporary class
- Take a jazz class
- Successful candidates will then be asked to stay to
- Perform your two-minute contemporary solo that features
- Informal interview with faculty

Virtual Auditions
Can’t make it to campus? You can submit a video audition by preparing a link via Google Drive or a private link to YouTube or Vimeo. Email the link to Beverly Fox at frisk-fox@adelphi.edu and Orion Duckstein at oduckstein@adelphi.edu.
The video should contain:
- Ballet: Adagio; tendu/pirouette; waltz; petit and grand allegro
- Modern/Contemporary: A combination from class, preferably across the floor
- Jazz: A combination from class, preferably across the floor
- Solo: A two-minute contemporary/modern solo that showcases your technique, artistry, and performance quality

No class is larger than 18 students, giving you personalized attention and individual guidance from our renowned faculty.
Yes. All ballet and contemporary/modern classes have live musicians.
All dance technique classes are reserved for dance majors and minors only. There are dedicated classes for non-majors.
Absolutely! Every semester, there are two rounds of performances:
- Dance Adelphi is a weeklong run choreographed by faculty and guest artists.
- The Dance Showcase is a weekend run for the student works from composition classes, pointe classes, and independent projects in many styles.
We often bring students to the American College Dance Association conferences, and many other opportunities come up. For example, our students have performed at the Joyce Theater in NYC as part of the Destiny Rising showcase.

Our dance curriculum balances training in ballet and contemporary/modern styles. Jazz technique classes are offered every semester as Industry Styles electives for dance majors, though they will soon be required for dance majors. These classes will include jazz, musical theater, street styles, etc, and recognize a diversifying field and our commitment to developing versatile dancers that are employable in many genres.
Yes! Adelphi offers a really vibrant mix of dance opportunities both inside and outside the academic program, giving students multiple ways to perform, train, and get involved.
