鈥淎delphi set me on my career path.鈥It was while pursuing psychology at Queens College that Robert Davis 鈥09 discovered he wanted to do something even more 鈥渉ands-on鈥 to help others. Volunteering for the Oceanside Fire Department, he sought advice from one of his captains, who suggested he look into Adelphi鈥檚 nursing program.
Fast forward to today and you can find Davis at South Nassau Communities Hospital, Long Island Medical Center where he serves as the nurse manager of a joint commission certified heart failure unit鈥攐ne of only two in New York with this designation.
Davis credits his Adelphi experience and his professors in the College of Nursing and Public Health with shaping him into the professional he is today. 鈥淒r. Deborah Ambrosio has been my number one fan and mentor since nursing school,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 wasn鈥檛 an A+ student, but my professors at Adelphi supported me and taught me what it means to be a caring person.鈥
After graduating from Adelphi in 2009, he passed his boards and secured his first job. He spent his first year working as a telemetry nurse, before transferring to the emergency department. He went on to become an assistant nurse manager of a 41-bed telemetry unit at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens and then a nurse manager of a 38-bed heart failure telemetry unit at South Nassau Communities Hospital, which is where he has been employed for the last four years. During this time he has continued his education, earning his M.S.N. in Healthcare Administration and Informatics and an M.B.A. in Healthcare Finance.
For the past 15 years, Davis has volunteered for the Oceanside Fire Department and served as a lieutenant and a captain. Additionally, he volunteers for the Nassau County Medical Reserve Corps, Rescue Company of Oceanside, his local temple, and the chevra kadisha.
In addition to managing a successful career in the health care industry and being very involved in volunteer work, Davis has also returned to where his career began鈥擜delphi鈥攖o educate the next generation of nursing professionals as an adjunct professor. 鈥淎ll of my professors at Adelphi were amazing. Adelphi nurtured me and set me on my path,鈥 he said. 鈥淣ow I get the opportunity to teach for the University and provide the same nurturing care to my students.鈥
While he has much to celebrate professionally, Davis cites his family as what he is most grateful for; his grandfather and mother who supported him through college, and his wife and three children who make him 鈥渟o proud every day.鈥
