Severe Economic Hardship Employment must be recommended by the Designated School Official and authorized by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).<\/p>\n
Eligibility Criteria<\/h2>\n
You are eligible to apply for employment based on severe economic hardship if:<\/p>\n

You have been in valid F-1 status for at least one academic year;<\/li>\n
You are experiencing economic hardship based on unforeseen circumstances beyond your control that arose after you obtained F-1 status;<\/li>\n
You are currently in good academic standing and are carrying a full course load;<\/li>\n
Employment opportunities on campus are unavailable or insufficient;<\/li>\n
Acceptance of employment will not interfere with your full-time study.<\/li>\n
The student has received an endorsement from their DSO for employment as a result of severe economic hardship and received a new Form I-20.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Unforeseen Circumstances<\/h2>\n

Loss of financial aid or on-campus employment resulting from circumstances beyond the student\u2019s control.<\/li>\n
Substantial fluctuations in the exchange rate or value of the student’s home country\u2019s currency.<\/li>\n
Inordinate increases in tuition or living costs.<\/li>\n
Unexpected changes in the financial condition of the student\u2019s financial sponsor.<\/li>\n
Unexpected medical bills not covered by insurance.<\/li>\n
Other substantial and unexpected expenses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
