Many of the same design practices used to accommodate students with disabilities have been shown to optimize learning for all students\u2014particularly those with language differences, less familiarity with technology, or limited access to the Internet.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Standards at a Glance<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The following resources provide a v<\/span>aluable starting point for understanding digital accessibility and offer a glimpse into the dynamic and continually evolving conversations surrounding an inclusive web:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/WAI\/videos\/standards-and-benefits\/\">Introduction to Web Accessibility<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/WAI\/standards-guidelines\/wcag\/glance\/\">W3C at a Glance<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Why is Accessibility Important?<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under current federal law, educational institutions, including those in higher education, must ensure that their courses are fully accessible to all students. <\/span><b><i>It\u2019s the <\/i><\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/mailchi.mp\/ef692c9cdc51\/azynkyrkfw\"><b><i>law<\/i><\/b><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">!<\/span><\/i><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To align with Adelphi\u2019s vision of creating a community which includes the core value of Respect of the Individual, our course design must emphasize Accessibility to ensure that all students can succeed.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students who require accessible materials are not the only ones who benefit; accessibility creates a learning environment where all students have the opportunity to be both engaged and successful.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Individuals who have encountered education that is accessible and inclusive are more equipped to excel in a workforce that values inclusivity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Diverse perspectives and experiences contribute to innovative thinking. Promoting and sustaining accessible courses encourages a diverse student body and fosters creativity and innovation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>How Can We Incorporate Accessibility into Our Courses So That ALL Students Succeed?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As referenced by points 3 and 4 in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why is Accessibility Important?<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, accessible education creates a universally beneficial learning environment. While simultaneously speaking to the diverse needs of Adelphi\u2019s learners, accessibility measures can bring a ripple effect of broader positive outcomes throughout the entire student body.
